Grant Guidelines

The Sioux Empire REALTORS® for Kids hopes the following information will assist you, the referring person or agency, in deciding if your referral meets our guidelines for the disbursement of funds.  Our level of giving is best described as “Filling in the Gaps”.

It is the desire of the Grant Request Committee to receive as much information about the referred child as possible.  We ask that you tell the child’s story, the need (not want), and the financial circumstances.  This gives the committee the opportunity to become familiar with the child’s situation and to make the decision about approving the funds requested.  The committee wants to see a face and hear the story of the child.

Guidelines

The child must live in or be from one of the Sioux Empire area communities or school districts served by the REALTOR® Association of the Sioux Empire (RASE).  These communities include Minnehaha, Lincoln, Turner, McCook, and Lake.

The child’s age has to be 18 and under.

A separate application for each child must be completed if there are more than one child being referred from one household.

RFK approves funds for the following:

  1. Community based organizations that provide support and on-site care for children that are abused, neglected, abandoned and disabled.
  2. Kids with medical needs, especially those who require immediate and ongoing treatment.  Insurance companies do not usually pay for the travel expenses of getting a child to and from treatment and RFK will help with those expenses.  Medical gifts are given annually, with the exception of life threatening or extenuating circumstances.
  3. Community and school related activities, which is driven by the financial hardship of the family and child.  RFK will consider giving funds for kids who need glasses, sports shoes, band instruments, project materials, fees to participate in camps, school trips, or related peer activities.

RFK does not sponsor children’s sports teams or events, nor do we fund other organization’s projects or fund raising efforts.  Requests will be accepted from referral agencies such as medical clinics, schools, social services, CASA or other child related agencies, our members and the people of the community who may know of a child in need.  We do not accept requests directly from the parents of the child needed assistance.
